JASON CROSS – AWARD-WINNING AMERICAN FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER, FILMMAKER, MUSICIAN, AND EDUCATOR
Gosh, reading that title up there makes me feel so… ugh… fancy. Sigh If only that were the case.
Those who market things for a living would say I need to tell you that I’m the son of a celebrated war photographer (cue the quote below). They’d say, “Tell them how you’ve been shooting since you were like seven years old, man.” Also true. But do you know why that matters? Because when it came time to shoot my own work, it was all about anticipation—the one unspoken lesson I learned from watching my dad. Anticipate the moment ahead and capture it when it unfolds.
Your event means everything to you—whether it’s a first birthday party or your wedding. Are some events really more important than others? Not to me. A missed moment is a missed moment, from birth to the end of life—you don’t get it back. Let’s not take a chance with a photographer who has a million photos but no consistent style. You need consistency, dependability, and affordability.
It’s a trust game—a relationship. So, let’s just get this out of the way on our first date, shall we? I’m not for everyone! I know, I know—shocking! But let’s be honest, you probably know someone who got married and has a horror story about their wedding photos. Every time I hear those stories, a common theme emerges:
"I saw the work they did. I showed them what I wanted—even though I didn’t see it anywhere in their galleries."
"I saw the work they did. I showed them what I wanted—even though I didn’t see it anywhere in their galleries."
Pinterest is GREAT. I mean, really great for getting ideas. But when it comes down to it, you have to ask:
"Can you actually do ALL of those ideas—in that time frame, in that space, in that lighting, at my venue, in my ready room, with my people?"
"Can you actually do ALL of those ideas—in that time frame, in that space, in that lighting, at my venue, in my ready room, with my people?"
So many factors. But if you look through my galleries, you’ll see plenty of those Pinterest-inspired recreations nailed to perfection. It is possible.
My Promise to You:
Before your event, I’ll set realistic expectations—what’s doable and what’s a no way in heck moment. With a broad knowledge of photography (cue the “he’s been doing it since he was a baby” montage), local venues, geography, meteorology (what time is that sunset again?), and all the other elements that make your moment special, I’ll not only set expectations but deliver on them. No surprises—just “Oh my God, look how gorgeous these photos are!” stories. Deal?
“My dad was always off covering the next big conflict somewhere in the world. I’d wander into his darkroom, grabbing cameras and loading film, trying to find a sense of who he was. What came from that? I found my own voice—in the images.”

See what I mean? Aren’t you glad we just stuck to the real person narrative instead of some fancy marketing spiel with keywords like “Best Atlanta Wedding Photographer” and “Award-Winning”? Pshh… words aren’t photos! And we’re here to see some pictures, right, Atlanta, Georgia? (See what I did there?)
One Last Thing...
Before I make my “contact me” pitch, here’s another thing the marketing folks insist I mention—my training under my father and how his journalism style became mine.
On your big day, I’ll be everywhere you are—and in a lot of places you aren’t. I’ll be in the thick of the action, capturing the moments you didn’t even realize were happening. The “Oh my gosh, wow” stuff. The Grandma-in-the-liquor kind of stuff, ya know? That’s what really sets me apart—the details, the story, the moments.
So… if you like my photos and feel like my personality might be a match for yours, let’s talk. I happen to love coffee and/or guacamole, so if you’d like to discuss your event while indulging in either of those (because bottomless tortillas is always an adventure—can I get an amen?), we can totally do that.
For those of you who just need the facts—can you afford me? (You probably can.) Scroll down past the photo to find all the ways to contact me. :)
